One encounter. One moment. One story. One life.
Chie Tokuyama is a Japanese artist whose creative journey has been shaped by life, travel, and encounters across different cultures.
Originally from Japan, she has lived in Osaka, Fukuoka, Hokkaido, and Tokyo, and spent ten years in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia. Since 2023, she has continued her journey in Europe, living in Copenhagen, Denmark, and Zurich, Switzerland. She has now returned to Tokyo, while continuing to travel and explore the world.
Throughout her life, Chie has encountered different cultures, landscapes, people, and ways of seeing the world. Each place and experience leaves an impression—sometimes vivid and energetic, sometimes quiet and subtle—and becomes part of her memories.
She transforms these impressions, memories, emotions, and moments into color and line. Her work ranges from bold and vibrant compositions to intricate monochrome line drawings, reflecting the different ways experiences can remain within us.
For Chie, art is a way of capturing the traces left by life and transforming them into something new.
ichigo iCHIE—a meeting of *ichigo ichie*, the Japanese philosophy of treasuring each encounter as a once-in-a-lifetime moment, and *Chie*, her own name—expresses the connection between her encounters, her journey, and her art.

一つの出会い。一つの瞬間。一つの物語。そして、一つの人生。
Chie Tokuyamaは、日本出身のアーティストです。異なる文化や土地での暮らし、そして旅を通して重ねてきたさまざまな出会いと経験を、創作の源としています。
これまで大阪、福岡、北海道、東京に暮らし、オーストラリアではシドニーとメルボルンで10年間を過ごしました。2023年からはヨーロッパへと活動の場を広げ、デンマークのコペンハーゲン、スイスのチューリッヒで暮らしました。現在は東京に戻り、東京を拠点としながらも、今もなお世界を旅し、新たな場所や文化との出会いを重ねています。
これまで訪れ、暮らしてきた場所で出会った文化、風景、人々、そしてその瞬間に感じたこと。一つひとつの経験は、鮮やかな印象として、あるいは静かな記憶として、彼女の中に残っていきます。
それらの印象や記憶、感情、心に残った瞬間を、色や線へと置き換え、作品として表現しています。作品は、鮮やかな色彩と力強い構成によるものから、繊細で緻密なモノクロームの線画まで幅広く、経験が心の中に残していくさまざまな形を探っています。
Chieにとって、アートとは、人生の中で出会ったものが自分の中に残した痕跡をすくい取り、新たな形へと変えていくことです。
「ICHIGO iCHIE」は、一生に一度の出会いを大切にする日本の美意識「一期一会」と、自身の名前である「Chie」を重ねた言葉です。これまでの出会い、旅、そして人生と作品をつなぐ、Chieの創作の哲学を表しています。
